Services Offered

  • Recreation Services
    • Vision Loss Resources offers a monthly program of social, recreational, and educational opportunities, from knitting group to supper club, from cultural field trips to book club.

  • Daily Living Skills/Independent Living Skills Training
    • Vision Loss Resources provides training in the use of technology, activities of daily living, recreation, fitness, calculator, keyboard, computer skills, and much more. Classes are offered at our Minneapolis location and throughout the community.

  • Computer Training/Assistive Technology
    • Whether you use a phone, smartphone, tablet, home computer, or e-reader, our specialists will meet with you to learn how to make the most of your device. We will explore programs and applications such as text-to-speech programs, screen magnification programs, and "personal assistant" apps, and we will explore how to confidently navigate web browsers, word processing and spreadsheet applications, and more.

  • Community Outreach Programs
    • Our specialists visit communities, from assisted living facilities to professional groups, to present education and information about living with vision loss, being a caregiver to people with vision loss, and more.

  • Professional Training
    • Vision Loss Resources' trained professional staff visit workplaces to inform and train employees. We also offer internship training in orientation and mobility, rehabilitation, and other fields.

  • Travel/Orientation and Mobility
    • Clients receive extensive and comprehensive training to be confident, safe and independent travelers. Clients will learn to cross streets safely and use public transportation in addition to learning problem-solving skills and information gathering. Proficiency in this program is an excellent foundation for those interested in a guide dog.

  • Support Groups
    • Vision Loss Resources facilitates support groups for seniors at convenient locations throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. We also pair clients with a peer mentor: a volunteer who also has vision loss and who can help you through the grief and loss that sometimes accompany vision loss. A peer mentor is also a valuable resource for ideas and information about community resources.

  • Assessment
    • An initial assessment is a comprehensive, professional evaluation to identify your needs, develop a service plan, and provide information on community resources. Recommendations on lighting and adaptive equipment
