Brief Description
Founded in 1920 by William Hadley, an educator who lost his eyesight later in life, Hadley offers practical help and social/emotional support free of charge to anyone with a visual impairment, their families and professionals supporting them. With Hadley, you can discover new ways to do things that have become more difficult due to vision loss and connect with a network of peers who "get it." And you don't need to come to Hadley. Hadley's help comes to you: online, on the phone, or through the mail.
Since relaunching in July 2020, more than 100,000 people have joined the Hadley community and our workshops have 98% satisfaction ratings. Hadley's help reaches all 50 states and more than 100 countries. And more people learn braille from Hadley than from any other organization worldwide.
Services Offered
Practical
Short video workshops with everyday tips from pouring coffee or using a sharp knife, to choosing a magnifier or new tech gadget, and a podcast interviewing experts on topics unique to vision loss.
Supportive
Discussion groups, support groups, a community-generated podcast, and a peer-to-peer program give you a sense of community and the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’re not alone on this journey.
Braille
Hadley offers interactive braille workshops by touch and by sight, from uncontracted braille to contracted braille and special symbols.
