Brief Description
Nestled within the woods of Rockaway Township, NJ-Camp Marcella has been providing a camping experience for visually and multiple-challenged children for over 60 years. Many of our campers return year after year, renewing old friendships and beginning new ones. Our campers leave camp with a greater feeling of self-confidence, self-reliance and independence, as well as an attitude that "I can be just like everyone else!" Children attending are encouraged, guided and supported by staff to participate and learn, to overcome fears of not being able to achieve. Camp Marcella is more than just a "week in the woods" -for most campers it is a life-altering experience! Facilities at Camp Marcella include the Main Lodge and dining hall, a picnic area complete with barbecue pavilion, 14 cabins, the Braun Auditorium/Rec Hall, a two-lane bowling alley and a game room. Campers join in on sporting events that take place out on the baseball field and basketball court! A state-of-the art, fully handicapped-accessible swimming pool provides even greater opportunities for exercise as well as fun and relaxation on a hot summer day! Paved paths connect all camp buildings , providing safe access to the entire facility for even the most severely limited campers. A paved walking and bike trail surrounds Mitten Lake and several hiking trails traverse the woods on all sides!
