Brief Description
The Henry Ford CVRR is the largest vision rehabilitation center of its kind and its staff are known nationwide for their expertise and quality of service.
Services Offered
- Assessment
- We assess visual acuity and contrast sensitivity and we map the macula to identify the seeing and non-seeing areas to help the individual use residual vision efficiently. We assess reading, writing, difficulties with daily activities, and emotional status and needs and provide comprehensive individualized rehabilitation.
- Computer Training/Assistive Technology
- Adaptive computer training.
- Consultation/Technical Program Assistance
- Our occupational therapists consult with and advise other care providers regarding specific patients. We consult on Medicare policy issues and on environmental adaptations for individuals, public buildings and private businesses.
- Counseling
- We address adjustment to vision loss, depression, family dynamics and caregiver stress and refer for counseling as appropriate.
- Information and Referral
- Provides local and national resource information to patients and families. Refers to other agencies as appropriate.
- Low Vision Services
- Offers comprehensive low vision examination followed by appropriate rehabilitation and does phone follow-up with patients six weeks after discharge and annually thereafter. Prescribes and supplies low vision devices. Provides low vision evaluations and retina mapping in the centers and specialized occupational therapy services in patients' homes and other community locations.
- Community Outreach Programs
- Our staff presents to community groups, support groups, churches, senior centers, and senior communities on a regular basis.
- Professional Training
- Provides training for ophthalmology residents and internship placement for occupational therapy students and orientation and mobility students.
- Daily Living Skills/Independent Living Skills Training
- Provides comprehensive rehabilitation services including home and personal management, communication, travel and other adaptive skills. Provides training in daily living skills and use of adaptive aids for seniors.
- Assistive Products
- We provide loaner devices recommended by the MD and OD for short term use at home to confirm their usefulness before purchase. We have optical and nonoptical devices for sale on site.
- Travel/Orientation and Mobility
- Provides orientation and mobility training.
- Health
- We address the spectrum of health problems affecting the function of seniors.
- In-Home Services
- Our occupational therapists, who are also certified low vision therapists, and an Orientation and Mobility specialist work with our patients in their homes and communities to maximize by skill development, environmental adaptations. and introduction to local and national resources
