Brief Description
The Philip J. Rock Center and School (PRC) offers a comprehensive residential educational program available for children with deafblindness who are 3-21 years old. These services are free to the families and school districts in Illinois. The Philip J. Rock School is a year-round residential program which offers an extended day educational program. All of the day classes are currently housed in local public schools or transition community settings, during regular school hours. The students are mainstreamed for many activities in the school day, including art, music, physical education, and vocational experiences, with non-handicapped peers. In addition to the essential elements of the common core, the PRC curriculum is based on the expanded core curriculum and emphasizes functional skills in these areas: 1) vocational, 2) domestic/personal care, 3) leisure, and 4) community. Students have opportunities to develop work skills at various vocational sites in the community, as well as vocational opportunities in the school building.
