Brief Description

AT & AEM Center is a centralized project powered by OCALI that creates, collects and disseminates materials, products and resources for individuals with print disabilities. It provides short-term and long-term loan access to Assistive technology that support a variety of needs. The Center also provides unique, specific professional development in the areas of AT & AEM.

Services Offered

  • Computer Training/Assistive Technology
    • Offers computer and tactile graphics training on a statewide and regional basis to parents, teachers, and educational personnel.

  • Consultation/Technical Program Assistance
    • Provides free technical assistance to Ohio school districts relating to the hardware and software needs of students with visual impairments. Assists school personnel in locating large print and braille textbooks; audio and digital textbooks; and instructional aids and tools for students with visual impairments and print disabilities.

  • Braille and Reading Instruction
    • Provides brailles courses through the Braille Excellence for Students and Teachers Grant.

  • Professional Training
    • Offers professional development activities throughout the year for parents and educational personnel serving students with visual impairments and print disabilities.

  • Distance Education
    • Through the Braille Excellence for Students and Teachers (BEST) Grant, CISAM offers an online web-based course "Assistive Technology for the Blind and Visually Impaired in collaboration with Bowling Green State University. The course is open to any students meeting university requirements.

  • Personnel Preparation
    • Through the Braille Excellence for Students and Teachers (BEST) Grant, CISAM provides summer braille courses through the University of Dayton for Ohio educators and parents.
