Brief Description
The Florida Department of Elder Affairs is the primary state agency administering human services programs to benefit Florida’s elders.
Services Offered
- Information and Referral
- Provides referrals to Area Agencies on Aging and information on other local aging services.
- Advocacy
- Advocates for Florida's elders. Plans, coordinates, administers, initiates programs and services for elders.
- In-Home Services
- The Home Care for the Elderly (HCE) program supports care for Floridians age 60 and older in family-type living arrangements within private homes, as an alternative to institutional or nursing home care.
Senior Companion volunteers provide transportation to medical appointments, shopping assistance, meal preparation, companionship and advocacy. They also provide respite to caregivers of frail elders.

- Employment/Job Training
- The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that serves low-income persons who are 55 and older and have poor employment prospects. Eligible individuals are placed in part-time community service positions with a goal of transitioning to unsubsidized employment.
