Key Considerations
As you work towards deciding if attending college or career school is a good decision for you, you may have some questions a graduate could answer. Often times when big decisions need to be made, it is helpful to talk with someone who made the decision you are considering. If there is something you do not fully understand or you want to know more about, speaking with a current student or a graduate who is blind or low vision may be beneficial to you. Your decision to go to college or career school should be an informed decision that you feel confident about.
Assignment
Interview someone you know who is currently attending or who has graduated from college or career school. Connecting with a person who is blind or low vision for guidance and advice will be valuable. Write at least 15 questions to ask that will help you narrow your decision. Include some “how to” or “how did you” questions to glean the most from your time with the interviewee. Following are a few questions you may want to include:
- Why did you decide to go to college or career school?
- How did you come to this decision?
- When did you make this decision?
- What do you remember the most about your first year?
- What was your greatest challenge?
- What did you find the most exciting?
- What have the benefits been from attending?
- How did you pay for your tuition and other expenses?
- Do you have any college or career school regrets?
- What, if anything, would you do differently?
- Is there anything you wish you would have known before you enrolled?
- What skills are needed to be successful in college?
- Did your education or training help you become employed?
- What is your advice to me, a blind or low vision student, as I consider my post-secondary options for furthering my education?
