Tacos, Disasters, and my BFF: Personal Storytelling, Inspired by The Moth Radio Hour (Ages: 13)

June 13, 2022 @ 8:00 am - June 17, 2022 @ 5:00 pm PDT

Do you love listening to stories? Do you love telling them? Learn how to create and share your own true personal tales: from that funny thing that happened the other day, to the saddest, scariest, or most shocking event you have been wanting to get off your chest. Together we will build a safe space and community for crafting your tales. Get ready to be inspired by not only your peers but yourself, as well!

Modeled after the internationally acclaimed NPR (National Public Radio) The Moth Radio Hour, this Summer Academy will create a supportive space in which you can identify, perform, and record personal narratives, listen to peers’ stories, and be heard as a storyteller. You will have an opportunity to hear published stories and learn and practice the elements of storytelling, including story craft and performance tools. The class will also offer opportunities for story sharing with an audience of peers (and beyond).

Wait a minute, what if I’m not “dramatic” or a “poet?”
No problem! The great thing about storytelling is that there’s no wrong way to be or perform – it’s just about being yourself.
Join us for an exciting, creative, unique, and fun summer experience! Areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) will include Compensatory Skills, Social Interaction and Recreation and Leisure.
