Tactile Book Builder Kit: How to Host an After Hour Make and Take

Description: Distance Learning has challenged teachers of the visually impaired and parents of learners with Visual and Multiple Disabilities to adapt and adjust to a new normal. There is never enough time to create all the books needed to engage these learners. Explore a way to encourage the educational supporters of the child to build their own books using the Tactile Book Builder Kit as the jumping-off point.

Primary Core or ECC Area: Literacy, sensory efficiency, compensatory, and social interaction
Target Audience: TVIs and families of learners with Visual and Multiple Impairments
Pre-requisite knowledge: None
Lesson Plan Goal: to provide TVIs a strategy to build a community of practice around the making and use of tactile books.
Learning Objectives: Participants will distinguish at least three benefits of hosting a Make ‘N Take book building event; Participants will design a Make ‘N Take book building event that matches their professional population; Participants will recognize at least five characteristics of a book created using the Make ‘N Take community of practice.
