Thanks to the generous donations from industry leaders and sponsors, APH is thrilled to announce five award opportunities and three scholarship opportunities for student attendees at the 2022 National Coding Symposium.
APH, Humanware, and Vispero have donated a $3000 award each for the purchase of technology from one of their businesses.
This year, there are three scholoarship opportunities as well. Papano has donated two $5000 scholarships, and APH has donated a $1000 scholoarship, to be awarded three individual students who meet the requirements and complete the scholarship form and essay by the deadline.
Award Submission Requirements for Raffle
Students who complete a coding activity from this site and submit a form will be entered into a raffle for a credit of up to $3000 towards the purchase of technology from one of these manufacturers: APH, Humanware, and Vispero. Students may submit one form for each activity they complete. Activities can be found on the Resources page.
The deadline for submission is May 12, 2022. Winners will be annouced during the APH Coding Symposium on Friday, May 13, 2022.
These incredible awards can be used to purchase braille displays, video magnifiers, or other unique technology with the intention that award recipients will be even further motivated to continue their interests in coding and advancing their technology skills. Eligibility is limited to primary, secondary, and post-secondary students who are visually impaired and interested in a career in or related to coding.

If you are selected as a winner we will need your media release permission as a condition of receiving the scholarship. If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or guardian will need to submit a signed permission electronically. The media release is included in the Google Form.
Papano Scholarship Submission Requirements
- Eligibility is limited to high school seniors entering college and post-secondary students already in school who are visually impaired and majoring in a STEM-related field.
- Each applicant must complete the scholarship application form and submit a typewritten .pdf or Google Doc essay of 500 words or less.
Essay Prompt:
- Why do you want to study/pursue coding?
- Consider reflecting on what inspires you to want to pursue learning more about coding. Are you interested in a career in programming, or are you interested in learning coding to gain entry to another career path or for another reason? Do not let this prompt limit you, but please explain how you enjoy the process of coding and how you believe it has the potential to impact and effect change.
Your essay will be judged on the following:
- Submitted on or before Friday, May 6, 2022
- Did you submit a complete application (Google Form and essay sent in together)?
- Does your essay answer the prompt?
- Is your essay at, or just under, the 500-word maximum word count?
- Is your essay cohesive, clear, and organized?
- Does your essay inspire the judging committee to believe in your future to seek employment in, or related to, coding?
